Classroom Teachers - Institute for the Creative Arts Social Studies

Overview

The Institute for the Creative Arts is the first Performing & Visual Arts High School in Arkansas. As a charter school, it is funded by the state. Our mission is: Empowering students through an intensive arts and academic curriculum that prepares them for higher education, creative careers, and to become future leaders in the performing and visual arts industries. ICA is seeking outstanding teachers to teach in the core areas of math, science, English, social studies, and foreign language for this innovative high school. Students in grades 9-12 spend half of their day in a specific arts program and half of their day in a rigorous Academic program. Instructors will report directly to the Dean and ultimately the President. This is a unique opportunity for exceptional and gifted instructors. The Institute opened in the fall of 2024 in the new Center for the Creative Arts, a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility located on a stunning 10-acre campus on Fort Smith's beautiful Riverfront Drive. Students in grades 9-12 participate daily in a specific arts program. Candidates will have experience and training in English Language Arts and experience teaching high school students. In addition, candidates will have experience working with public school officials and parents. Priority will be given to candidates who have an interest in working in an arts school with creative students and possess the ability to assist students in their creative endeavors. Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively with other ICA instructors and artist-teachers to provide assistance with student projects and performances when needed.

Requirements A Bachelors degree in the core content area of teaching, masters degree a plus Three years of teaching experience is preferred, particularly at the high school level Team builder and possessing excellent communication skills Ability to collaborate and involve community partners Ability to recruit and mentor students Ability to work with instructors and students across disciplines Interest in working in a creative environment with significant time spent in small group and one-on-one learning

Must meet AR licensure requirements in core content areas or meet Arkansas Qualified Teacher requirements. Other duties as assigned by Head of School Responsibilities: To direct and evaluate the learning experiences of the pupil in both curricular and extra-curricular activities in accordance with school policies. To provide guidance to the pupil which will promote his welfare and his proper educational development. To maintain liaison with the parents. To teach and administer the classroom program. To provide for the care and protection of school property. To participate in the business and activities of the faculty. To cooperate with and participate in planning and evaluation of the school program. To notify the Dean and Department Director as early as possible when it is necessary to be absent from school. To maintain a cordial and workable relationship with colleagues. To inform the Dean and Department Director of any action or situation which has affected or may affect the normal classroom activities and which requires supervisory attention. To study and comply with School Board policy. To work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to promote the arts and assist students in their arts activities. To perform other duties as assigned. Physical requirements* Be able to stand for the majority of the school day in order to effectively monitor and supervise students Be able to walk short distances to supervise students between classrooms and activities Be able to sit, stand, lean, reach, bend, lift and squat to assist students as needed Be able to walk on uneven surfaces (playground) Be able to walk up and down stairs Be outside in all weather conditions for assigned duty (recess, before school drop offs, after school pick- ups and field trips)
