The Department of Social Work at Roberts Wesleyan University invites candidates to apply for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track Social Work faculty position beginning July 2026.

The Department of Social Work is housed in the School of Education and Social Work on our park-like campus in Rochester, New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area.

Roberts Wesleyan University is a comprehensive, Christian university of the liberal arts, sciences, and professions serving approximately 1,750 traditional and nontraditional students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In support of the diversity of thought, Roberts offers over 60 undergraduate programs/majors, including 2 associates programs and 5 bachelors completion programs, alongside a portfolio of 22 masters and doctoral programs, and 26 online programs, including hybrid options; our first doctoral program launched in 2016.

The mission of the Department of Social Work is to empower students through education, enabling them to positively impact individuals, communities, and society. Using a person-in-environment framework, students will be prepared to pursue social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, with a focus on upholding human rights and dignity. The department serves over 200 students and has 8 faculty members, with 3 serving in the BSW Program and 5 serving in the MSW Program.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for candidates include:

  • A doctoral degree (preferably a PhD in Social Work or DSW)
  • A Masters degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited institution
  • At least two years of post-MSW practice experience with children, youth, families, or in mental health/behavioral health settings
  • At least one year of college/university-level teaching experience (preferably in online or hybrid environments at the Masters level or with adult students)

Preferred qualifications for candidates include:

  • An active license in social work (e.g., LMSW, LCSW)
  • A record of scholarship and professional contributions to the field of social work

Candidates must also demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support the Universitys Christian mission and identity. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate multicultural competence and show commitment to the principles of diversity & equity.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of all faculty at Roberts Wesleyan University is teaching. These responsibilities include undergraduate-level courses in both our traditional and degree-completion BSW programs. The teaching will comprise both online and in-person classes.

Additional faculty responsibilities include:

  • Participating in department and university committees and events (with a mix of online and some in-person participation expectations)
  • Advising BSW students
  • Engaging in scholarship
  • Collaborating to develop new initiatives and community partnerships
  • Engaging in service
  • Preparing for accreditation

Promotion and tenure at the University are based on achievement across four broad categories: teaching, scholarship, professional activity, and service.

The approved salary range for this position is $54,500 - $63,000. Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.
