Social Work Intern 

Organization: The Happier Life Project 

Program: Elevate Youth California (EYC) 

Classification: Temporary, Part-Time, Grant-Funded 

Compensation: $23/hour 

Schedule: 15 hours per week 

Location: Riverside County (Hybrid / Community-Based) 

Eligibility: Youth ages 18–26 

  

The Happier Life Project is recruiting a Social Work Intern for its Elevate Youth California program. This paid, part-time internship is designed for students pursuing careers in social work, human services, or behavioral health. 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Social Work Intern supports youth-centered programming and community engagement activities while developing foundational skills in trauma-informed care, professional boundaries, and client support. 

Interns assist with group-based programming, outreach, and resource navigation while gaining exposure to community-based support services and peer-led prevention programs. 

This internship provides hands-on experience in youth engagement, group facilitation, and community resource coordination. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist with planning and co-facilitating youth groups and workshops 

  • Support outreach and follow-up communication with program participants 

  • Help identify and organize community resources for youth and families 

  • Assist with documentation and program records under staff supervision 

  • Support group engagement and youth participation during activities 

  • Participate in outreach events, workshops, and prevention programming 

  • Assist with community resource mapping and referral support 

  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in all participant interactions 

  • Participate in supervision, training, and professional development activities 

  

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

Preferred Education Pathways  

  • Applicants are typically: 

  • College juniors or seniors 

  • Community college students preparing to transfer 

  • Recent graduates (within the last 2–3 years) 

  • Relevant Fields of Study May Include 

  • Social Work 

  • Human Services 

  • Psychology 

  • Behavioral Health 

  • Sociology 

  • Community Health 

  • Counseling (pre-licensure) 

  • Criminal Justice with a rehabilitation focus 

Equivalent Experience Considered 

Youth with lived experience, peer support backgrounds, or community leadership experience may be considered in place of formal education. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE 

  • Interest in social work, community support, or behavioral health careers 

  • Strong empathy, listening skills, and interpersonal communication 

  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality 

  • Interest in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care 

  • Comfort working in community settings and youth programs 

  • Commitment to supporting youth and community well-being 

This role is part of a grant-funded workforce development program designed for young adults ages 18–26. Applicants must meet the grant’s eligibility criteria to be considered. 

This is a non-clinical internship focused on skill development, community engagement, and professional exposure to social work–related practices.
