Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is: to provide preventive, remedial, and support services aimed at improving and sustaining the psychological health of National Guard (NG) military members and their families.

  • Coordinate with the National Guard community serving the military and non-military agencies to promote timely information exchange, coordinate collaborative prevention efforts, and establish and maintain an extensive array of resources, associations, and community partnerships. Participates in community activities to incorporate complex strategies that enhance community strengths, reduces broad-based community needs, implements community problem solving methods, and forges community connections to promote psychologically healthy lifestyles.
  • Conducts needs assessments, intake evaluations, and psycho-diagnostic assessments.
  • Accomplishes intake interviews to include family history, bio-psychosocial history, developmental and health histories, and presenting problems together with any relevant secondary information, screens records and personnel for security clearances and makes administrative recommendations.
  • Coordinates, and implements prevention and community outreach and education programs.
  • Develop coordinated plans for reducing risk factors for individuals and within the community, and build and enhance a general culture that promotes psychological health and wellness.
  • Coordinate as key facilitator and team lead in the development and implementation of an annual, Unit-level psychological health strategic plan.
  • Develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health.
  • Formulates strategies to generate interest, acceptance, and participation by National Guard community consumers, resource suppliers, and eligible National Guard Soldiers/Airmen and family members regarding psychological health services and community prevention for the general population.

  • Must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • This is a designated as an Essential Personnel position and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Designation wont exceed 14 calendar days unless approved by TAG.
  • Possess a current, unrestricted State license to practice clinical social work independently. (LCSW or equivalent)

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE

Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicants record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.

Basic Requirements:

  • Education. Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. (Must provide a copy of your transcripts to receive credit for your education.)
  • Licensure. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. (Must provide a copy of your license/certification with your application.)
  • Clinical Experience. Must have 24 months of experience in a clinical social work assignments.

In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must meet the one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 09 grade level or civilian sector equivalent. The specialized experience includes: 1) Working knowledge of social work theories, principles, techniques, and resources; 2) Experience interviewing people to establish the nature and extend of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, and referring them to community resources and other organizations; 3) Experience assisting clients to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces. It also allows the Army to expand rapidly in time of war. The industrial base provides world-class equipment and logistics for the Army. Army installations provide the power-projection platforms required to deploy land forces promptly to support combatant commanders. Once those forces are deployed, the institutional Army provides the logistics needed to support them.

Without the institutional Army, the operational Army cannot function. Without the operational Army, the institutional Army has no purpose.
