Description
Gaston Social Services: Protecting, caring for and empowering children and adults who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves through the administrating of federal, state and county programs focused on improving the well-being of our citizens.
The goal of the Gaston County Human Services Center and Division of Social Services is to foster an agency which is professionally responsive to our citizens needs through daily caring outreach and simultaneously serve as an advocate for those in need. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $30.43 - $36.14
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Develops broad training objectives for the Child Welfare Division based upon policy changes, case reviews, results of the trainers observations, training needs assessment and in discussion with the agency Director, Quality Assurance supervisor, and Child Welfare management.
Assesses and arranges training that is appropriate for the identified needs of staff in efforts of increasing accuracy and efficiency. Creates and maintains an electronic tracking system of individual required training needs, participation, and mandated training.
Creates training format for both classroom and field work learning using Power Point, skill building, team building, and hands on learning of child welfare policies, procedures, forms, and field work.
Assists in identifying needs, objectives, and strategies for programs, work performance and training through staff consultation and routine needs assessments.
Assists in the recruitment, selection, and retention practices for the Child Welfare Division.
Works with management to develop and write consistent policies, practices, and guidelines to enhance the delivery of social work practice among all staff. Provides policy research and development based upon trends identified in supervisory conferences, audits, and management requests.
Conduct client follow up surveys or supervise staff doing this task through coordination with the Continuous Quality Improvement staff and all training staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of techniques and methods of conducting formal and informal training programs and of theory, practices, and principles of human behavior and performance. Knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to casework of abuse or neglect of children; of federal and state laws, policies and procedures, and program rules; of adult learning theory; and of program evaluation techniques. Working knowledge of office equipment, audiovisual equipment, and computers and applicable software applications. Ability to adapt and communicate information to a wide range of audiences and situations; to formulate ideas and communicate them effectively in oral and written form; to interpret and administer federal and state guidelines and apply them to individual programs; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, co-workers, community agencies and the general public; and to attend work regularly.

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
In compliance with G.S.153A-94.2 (b), if the position being filled requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the County must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S.143B-1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties.
