Job Description:

The Social Worker is responsible for providing support to students with special needs. He/she will provide counseling as needed to individual and/or groups.  The Social Worker is responsible for the coordination of accessing and collaborating with other resources within and outside of the school. 

Essential Duties:

· Collaborate with families and community-based agencies to provide a comprehensive model of school-wide educational and mental health services, including referral to community services as necessary.

· Foster a school climate that addresses the individual needs of students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other special needs

· Conduct direct counseling services in both small group and individual settings, in accordance with IEPs and individual student needs.

· Conduct parent training and/or family counseling through individual or group conferences based on individual need

· Review reports of suspected abuse or neglect and ensure proper actions are taken

· Collaborate with staff to evaluate and/or assess each student’s social-emotional functioning and adaptive behaviors on a regular basis

· Assist in the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans using a team approach

· Provide guidance and training to staff on a variety of topics, including crisis management, effective approaches to working with special needs students, abuse and neglect, classroom management techniques, and teaching and learning strategies

· Develop and maintain working relationships between educators, parents, community services, and Benedictine staff.  

· Participate in IEP meetings, coordinating and taking minutes as needed

· Monitor progress in achieving IEP goals and objectives
