Job Title: School Social Worker/Counselor

Reports To: Student Services Coordinator / Building Principal

Position Overview

Bensenville School DIstrict 2 is seeking a dedicated and student-centered School Social Worker or School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success of a diverse student population. The successful candidate will provide culturally responsive social work services, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and partner closely with families to remove barriers to learning and promote student well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling services addressing social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Conduct social developmental histories, functional behavioral assessments, and other evaluations as part of special education eligibility and IEP processes.
  • Serve as an active member of IEP, MTSS, and problem-solving teams.
  • Support implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 social-emotional, behavioral, and attendance interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and related service providers to develop effective student supports.
  • Facilitate communication and engagement with families, ensuring equitable access to school services and resources.
  • Participate in crisis intervention, risk assessments, threat assessments, and follow-up support as needed.
  • Connect families with community agencies and outside mental health resources.
  • Promote positive school climate initiatives, attendance improvement, and restorative practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) or Counseling (MS) from an accredited program.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker or School Counselor endorsement in the State of Illinois.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of special education law, MTSS frameworks, and trauma-informed practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a K-12 school setting.
  • Strong collaboration and consultation skills.
  • Training in restorative practices, SEL programming, or behavior intervention planning.
  • Experience supporting multilingual learners and immigrant families.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the District.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in either written diagram or oral form.
  • Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
