Job Description Summary

The Part-time Sociology Instructor, High Schools will be responsible for teaching introductory communication courses with face-to-face and online components (hybrid or blended).

This position requires daytime, in-person instruction at partner high school locations within the Forsyth Technical Community College service area, including sites within Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The selected candidate must have consistent weekday daytime availability and be able to travel to assigned high school campuses to deliver face-to-face instruction. Flexibility to teach at multiple locations based on program needs is expected

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Sociology or Master's Degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Successful teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.
  • Successful teaching experience in online and hybrid courses or blended courses.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as designated by the department chairperson and approved by the dean.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required College records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.
  • Classroom preparation, instruction, grading and record keeping for one to four classes per semester.
  • Make recommendations to the Department Chair for supplies, equipment, and equipment repairs.
  • Construct, administer, and grade examinations.
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.
  • Attend specialized training activities that enhance job performance.
