INTRODUCTIONS:
The City of Racine Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department (PRCS) is a division of the City of Racine government. We manage parks and beaches totaling over 1,100 acres, five community centers, and many other facilities, providing a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Officiate at municipal adult league softball events. Detect infractions of rules and decide penalties according to established regulations.
Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Officiate at softball games to maintain standards of play and ensure game rules are observed.
Judge performance in order to award points, impose penalties or determine results.
Duties involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking/running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, leaping, jumping down, standing in place or continual walking, lifting and carrying of moderate to heavy items (including people) on a consistent basis.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
Signal game start/end times.
Keep track of elapsed time, starting and stopping play as necessary.
Resolve complaints or claims of infractions by participants and assess proper action required.
Verify scores as necessary.
Direct participants to assigned areas.
Report to PRCS Recreation Supervisor regarding scores, complaints, or other disciplinary actions taken.
Confer with coaches, players and facility managers to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss issues.
Teach and explain established rules and regulations governing softball.
Verify eligibility of players and equipment.
Attend assigned games consistently with limited access to personal time off.
Keep track of scores and turn in scores after game
Put bases in place before game and Remove bases after game and put away.
Unlock bathrooms prior to start of game and Lock bathroom after game.
Make sure lights are turned off before leaving.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat & cold and rain.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must attend a City of Racine three-day umpire school & successfully complete a skills test
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience as an umpire preferred.
A minimum of at least 2 years of active league plays preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Demonstrated understanding of the rules and regulations of adult league softball.
Ability to resolve conflict in a professional, polite, equitable manner.
A demonstrated history of excellent work attendance.
Teach and explain established rules and regulations governing softball.
