Position Summary

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Senior Specialist is responsible for governing the full lifecycle of enterprise software assets, ensuring licensing compliance, cost optimization, operational efficiency, and a positive employee experience. This role partners closely with Procurement, Finance, Information Security, IT Product Owners, and software vendors to manage licensing programs, contract renewals, audits, and software usage across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills, software licensing expertise, operational excellence, and a process-improvement mindset. They will lead software asset governance initiatives, drive automation opportunities, provide strategic recommendations, and ensure accurate software asset records and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Software Asset Lifecycle Management

• Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of software assets, including request, procurement, allocation, deployment, reclamation, renewal, and retirement.
• Maintain accurate software entitlement, consumption, and financial records within asset management systems.
• Govern software inventories and ensure alignment between software entitlements, deployments, and utilization.
• Lead software harvesting and reclamation efforts to maximize license utilization and reduce unnecessary spend.

Licensing Compliance & Risk Management

• Interpret and administer software licensing agreements, terms, conditions, and usage restrictions.
• Conduct regular compliance reviews and internal audits to identify risks and remediation opportunities.
• Coordinate vendor audit responses and collect supporting evidence as required.
• Partner with Information Security to ensure compliance with organizational policies and contractual obligations.

Vendor & Contract Management

• Manage relationships with software vendors, resellers, and procurement partners.
• Track renewals, maintenance agreements, subscriptions, true-ups, and contractual obligations.
• Support contract negotiations by providing usage analytics, licensing recommendations, and cost optimization opportunities.
• Develop software consumption forecasts to support budgeting and strategic planning.

Reporting & Analytics

• Create and maintain dashboards, reports, and executive summaries related to software spend, utilization, compliance, and optimization.
• Analyze software usage and licensing data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
• Provide regular reporting and recommendations to IT leadership, Finance, Procurement, and software stakeholders.
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities for software investments.

Process Improvement & Automation

• Identify and implement opportunities to automate software asset management processes.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, workflows, and knowledge articles.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, improve data quality, and enhance the user experience.
• Collaborate with ITSM, Procurement, and engineering teams to improve system integrations and data flows.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with software product teams, business leaders, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Information Security to ensure software assets are effectively managed.
• Educate employees and stakeholders on software licensing requirements and governance practices.
• Act as a subject matter expert for software licensing, entitlement management, and software asset governance.
• Support enterprise initiatives involving mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and large-scale software deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, Procurement, Licensing, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience managing enterprise software licensing programs and vendor relationships.
• Knowledge of software licensing models, subscriptions, SaaS licensing, maintenance agreements, and contract administration.
• Experience analyzing software utilization, compliance, and entitlement data.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, and data analysis techniques.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, Snow, or similar Software Asset Management platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft, Adobe, Atlassian, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Oracle, SAP, or other enterprise software licensing programs.
• Familiarity with ITIL principles and IT Service Management practices.
• Experience supporting vendor audits and compliance reviews.
• Asset Management certifications such as:
• CSAM (Certified Software Asset Manager)
• CITAM (Certified IT Asset Manager)
• CHAMP
• ITIL Foundation

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this role, we are hiring at the following levels and targeted base pay salary ranges: The targeted base salary pay range for this position is $70,00 to $85,000. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
