Job Description:

Software Category Manager

Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)

Compensation: $65 - $75 hourly

Role Overview

An opportunity is available for a Software Category Manager to support a Global Procurement Organization. This role focuses on driving strategic software procurement initiatives, supplier negotiations, and cost savings across enterprise software vendors. The position involves reducing software spend through commercial negotiations, supplier consolidation, and vendor management across high-value contracts. The team requires an individual who can manage a portfolio with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage software contracts approaching renewal and build and execute negotiation strategies with suppliers.
  • Conduct spend analysis and supplier research to identify cost-savings and supplier consolidation opportunities.
  • Partner with legal, finance, compliance, and business stakeholders throughout the procurement lifecycle.
  • Manage procurement intake requests, project pipelines, and maintain accurate documentation and savings tracking.
  • Drive software sourcing initiatives from discovery through contract execution.
  • Own the full procurement lifecycle: spend analysis, stakeholder discovery, contract drafting, legal coordination, negotiation execution, and finance validation.

Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelors Degree is required.

Experience: Candidates should have 5+ years of procurement, sourcing, category management, supply chain, or program management experience. Proven experience is necessary in negotiating software licensing, SaaS, and technology contracts, with an ability to drive commercial savings and favorable contract terms.

Skills: Strong written communication skills for stakeholder interaction across procurement, legal, finance, and business teams are required. The role demands proficiency in documenting negotiations, building business cases, and providing executive-level updates. Strong analytical skills with experience using data to identify savings opportunities are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct software procurement experience.
  • Experience negotiating enterprise software and SaaS agreements.
  • Strong Excel and spend analysis capabilities.
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management tools and procurement systems.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Coupa, Contract Central, Asana, iScore, and QuickSight.
