Client Overview:
Our client is a diagnostic company specializing in the creation of tools and services for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Our client is seeking a Software/Clinical Lab Intern with a background in software/bioinformatics.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$17/hr

Position Overview:
The ideal candidates for the Software/Clinical Lab Intern role are college sophomores or juniors majoring in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, quantitative and/or computational Biology, or similar areas of study. This is a long-term internship that would continue into the school year - candidates must be based in/attending school in the NJ area.

Responsibilities of the Software/Clinical Lab Intern:
  • Prepare workstations and record incoming clinical data and documentation.
  • Process clinical patient data using established protocols.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving of test kits to clinical trial sites.
  • Analyze microscope imaging, record images, and transfer relevant data.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks documenting significant activities and results.
  • Conduct research and develop protocols on advanced machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Collaborate with external AI consultants to develop and code novel models and pipelines.
  • Work with internal and external consultants to implement data package transfers.
  • Follow and assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under supervision.
  • Prepare data, write reports of findings, assist in preparing abstracts and posters for scientific conferences, and contribute to journal paper preparation.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly workplace and ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience/Skills for the Software/Clinical Lab Intern:
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
  • Willingness to work with minimal direction across various software types, models, and platforms.
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in pursuing a PhD or advanced graduate program.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Software/Clinical Lab Intern:
  • Experience in computer science, software engineering, or related fields with the ability to develop practical software programs.
  • Familiarity with various programming languages, machine learning models, and AI concepts.
  • Basic microscopy and general biological/chemistry laboratory knowledge is a plus.
Education Requirements:
  • College sophomore or junior majoring in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Quantitative and/or Computational Biology, or similar areas of study.
