Our mission is to make it easy for employees and their family to discover and use the benefits that apply to them. Today's traditional benefit experiences rely heavily on content, explanations, and instructions for people to understand what's available to them and how to use it. We are bringing personalized and friction-free benefits to the tip of the fingers of over five million people (our employees and their dependents). Amazon Benefits help them live richer and fuller lives, be it by helping them in a moment of medical need, saving for retirement, or helping them with a vacation. We are building a delightful mobile and web experience integrated with internal and external systems, so employees don't have to go through hoops to get what they want. No employer has ever done this level of experience or personalization before and we are breaking new ground.

The Discovery & Experience Unit is responsible for all initiatives related to the push/pull discovery efforts, and for how employees engage, manage, and use their benefits on AtoZ. On the discovery "pull" front, this team owns the integration with AtoZ and MyHR search, including deep & long-tail search, and future explorations with LLMs. On the discovery "push" front, it"s responsible for Comms & Notification, Recommendations, and Trusted Advisor. The Experience on AtoZ includes initiatives on the expansion of the Benefit Experience Framework to support 50+ countries (and hundreds of benefit programs) in multiple languages, integration with MyHR (FAB), content & localization, the Employee Discount Service, and the workplace tiles and services (Family, Deals, Extras, Commuter, Pet, Meal Voucher, Career Choice, Facilities, Travel, GiveHUB, etc.). Finally, this team is also responsible for the Currency-based Benefit Store and how people view their statements & transactions, pricing, total rewards statements, etc.

As an SDE II on the team you will take ownership over the software design, documentation, development, engineering approach, delivery and support of new Benefits platform built natively in AWS. You will actively participate in the design, technology selection, and build of the platform. A successful SDE II will have a broad array of experiences, exceptional design skills, an excellent ability to solve problems, good communication skills and a desire to be a key technical contributor. The software you will be responsible for will require a breadth of technical development knowledge (i.e. distributed real-time systems, big data, orchestration software). Daily work will involve interacting with engineers, product stakeholders and managers, working on creative algorithms and building large-scale systems.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
