Description

Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is AWS's fully managed live streaming service, built on the same battle-tested technology that powers Twitch and trusted by thousands of enterprises across gaming, social, live commerce, sports, and entertainment.

Our mission: enable developers to build communities around live video. We handle everything from ingest to processing to delivery at global scale, so developers can focus on creating interactive, engaging live experiences for their audiences. Whether you're streaming to tens of millions of concurrent viewers or just getting started, Amazon IVS removes the complexity so developers can move fast.

IVS's Video Client SDK team is looking for experienced mobile engineers to build a multi-platform broadcasting and playback system that works everywhere people want to create and consume video. We own the Real Time, Broadcast, and Video Player SDKs that power our customers' live video experiences. As a software engineer in the Mobile Client SDK Team reporting to the Director of Client Engineering, you will create and refine a media experience used by millions of users all over the world.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain our video playback, broadcast, and real-time SDKs for iOS

  • Collaborate with backend video teams that support low-latency and real-time media broadcasting and playback

  • Build reliable unit, integration, and end-to-end tests

  • Stay current on Apple platform developments, media frameworks, and streaming technologies

A day in the life

You might start the morning investigating a customer-reported playback issue, digging into AVFoundation behavior across iOS versions. By midmorning you're building new playback functionality in our HLS Player SDK including API design, implementing for functionality in C++, crafting platform specific bindings, and testing across a range of devices. After lunch you're reviewing a teammate's PR for the real-time SDK, discussing codec tradeoffs with the backend team, and running integration tests to make sure nothing regressed. The work spans the full media stack on Apple platforms and no two days look the same.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
