Advisor Services Technology (AST), part of Schwab Technology Services (STS), delivers the platforms, applications, and integration capabilities that power critical digital experiences for Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs). Within AST, the AS Gateway Services team develops scalable API solutions and integration services that connect Schwab platforms with advisor firms and strategic technology partners, helping advisors operate more efficiently and better serve their clients.

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who is passionate about building high-quality software solutions and solving complex business challenges. In this role, you will design, develop, and enhance secure, scalable applications and APIs that support key advisor-facing products and services. Working in a highly collaborative Agile environment, you will partner with product owners, engineers, quality teams, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into innovative technical solutions that drive measurable outcomes.

Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence with business impact. You will contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, helping shape solution design, evaluating technical tradeoffs, identifying and mitigating risks, and continuously improving engineering practices. You will also have opportunities to provide technical leadership through knowledge sharing, code reviews, mentoring, and collaboration with distributed teams. What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience developing software solutions using C# and .NET technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting REST-based APIs and web services in transactional environments.
  • Experience applying object-oriented programming principles, software design patterns, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments and collaborating within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience building and utilizing automated testing frameworks, including Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience supporting application and system integrations across multiple platforms and services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate alternatives and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships across engineering, product, operations, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), enterprise integration patterns, and JSON-based APIs.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience designing and supporting scalable, resilient cloud-native applications.
  • Experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles, software architecture, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience contributing to technical design documentation and software architecture decisions.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical standards across a team.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, release management processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
