Software Developer I

Position Summary

We are seeking a Full Stack Software Developer to design, develop, and deploy advanced decision support systems that enhance transportation planning, operational performance, and network optimization. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission critical applications that influence strategic and operational decision making across a large transportation network.

The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, operational teams, and technical professionals to translate complex business challenges into scalable software solutions. This individual will contribute throughout the full application lifecycle, including requirements gathering, application design, development, testing, deployment, and production support while creating highly effective user experiences and analytical tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain web based decision support and transportation planning applications

• Build analytical solutions that support network planning, service design, operational performance, and disruption management initiatives

• Create intuitive user interfaces and interactive data visualization tools that enable effective decision making

• Design, develop, and support ETL processes and integrated data repositories for analytical applications

• Develop enterprise applications using Java, Python, and modern web technologies

• Collaborate with business partners and operational teams to identify process improvement opportunities and technology solutions

• Support application testing, deployment, implementation, and ongoing production maintenance activities

• Enhance existing operations research and analytics applications through continuous improvement initiatives

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline

• 1 to 3 years of full stack software development experience delivering production applications using established software development best practices

• Strong experience developing enterprise applications using Java and related technologies

• Proficiency with JavaScript, React, HTML5, and CSS for modern web application development

• Experience developing decision support systems utilizing operations research, optimization, or advanced analytics methodologies

• Strong SQL skills with experience working with relational database platforms

• Experience working within Linux or UNIX development environments

• Exposure to AI tools and technologies and the ability to leverage them in software development initiatives

• Knowledge of transportation planning, logistics, network optimization, or railroad operations concepts preferred

• Excellent analytical, problem solving, written, and verbal communication skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and adapt to evolving business priorities
