Description
Vencora Business Unit:
VBU - Covenir
Job Summary:
Covenir is a BPO partner to insurance carriers — and increasingly, a technology company that happens to serve them. The Platform is how that shows up day to day: modules spanning Print, Call Center, Virtual Mailroom, and Premium & Lockbox, built with an AI-assisted, 80/20 development model where AI handles the first draft and people handle the judgment. Software Developer II is a mid-level seat on that team, working alongside other developers under the R&D Manager. The Platform — spanning Print, Call Center, Virtual Mailroom, and Premium & Lockbox — is this role’s current top priority, though scope shifts to Covenir’s broader development needs as priorities evolve. You’ll apply Covenir’s 80/20 development model to move fast from idea to working module without cutting corners on production quality.
Job Description:
How Covenir’s Values Show Up in This Role
Committed to WOW our Customers: You build features knowing Operations, carriers, or teammates will lean on them daily — you test the edge cases, not just the happy path.
Great Just Isn’t Good Enough: Shipping isn’t the finish line. You look back at your own modules and ask what would make them faster, cleaner, or more resilient.
One Team, One Goal: You mentor Developer I’s work when asked and pull in senior developers when you’re stuck — you don’t let a blocker sit quietly.
Passion for Excellence: Your pull requests are ones a senior developer can approve with confidence, not ones that need a rewrite.
What You’ll Do
Design and build production features on The Platform in JavaScript/Node.js, C#, or an equivalent language
Write and optimize SQL and relational database logic (Azure SQL/AWS DB)
Use Azure cloud services (Container Apps, Blob Storage, Azure AI/OpenAI services) as part of feature delivery
Apply AI-assisted development to complete most implementation work, refining and verifying the rest
Lead small development initiatives or design sessions with guidance from senior developers
Mentor Software Developer I on platform development practices
Manage multiple tasks or projects at once and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality
Follow Agile sprint assignments, focusing on the most critical projects set by the R&D Manager
Requirements
3+ years of professional software development experience, including production work in JavaScript/Node.js, C#, or an equivalent modern language
Proficient SQL and relational database design experience (Azure SQL, AWS DB, or equivalent)
Working knowledge of cloud services such as Azure Container Apps, Blob Storage, or equivalent
Working knowledge of authentication and access frameworks (Auth0, two-factor authentication, role-based access control)
Fundamental knowledge of insurance BPO business processes across Print, Call Center, Virtual Mailroom, and Premium & Lockbox
Proficient understanding of The Platform’s architecture, core modules, AI/API sandbox, and customer-facing portal, along with Covenir’s development standards and coding practices
Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD-based deployment
Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools as a core part of daily workflow
Ability to create clear, concise technical and test documentation for platform modules
Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced developers is a plus
Completes Software Developer I onboarding requirements and SOC compliance/data-security training, and passes Covenir’s internal development standards review
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
Performs other duties as assigned by the R&D Manager in support of Covenir’s broader business needs
What an A Player Looks Like
Ships without babysitting. A players take a feature from idea to production with minimal handholding, checking in at the right moments instead of every step.
AI-fluent, not AI-dependent. A players move fast with AI-assisted tools but still know why the code works and can defend it in review.
Mentors without being asked twice. When Developer I gets stuck, A players jump in — not because it’s assigned, but because that’s how the team gets better.
Comfortable with ambiguity. Requirements aren’t always fully defined. A players ask the right clarifying questions and move, rather than waiting for a perfect spec.
Owns the production quality bar. A players test edge cases, think about what breaks under load, and don’t treat “it works on my machine” as done.
Speaks up early. If a design or deadline doesn’t make sense, A players raise it constructively and early, not after the sprint has failed.
Is This Role For You?
Strong fit
3+ years of hands-on development experience,
comfortable owning a feature end to end
Proficient with JavaScript/Node.js, C#, or an
equivalent language, and SQL/relational databases
Enjoys mentoring more junior developers without
needing to be asked
Comfortable with AI-assisted development tools and
confident explaining the resulting code
Skip this role if
You want fully scoped tickets with no ambiguity or ownership • You’re not interested in mentoring or supporting Developer I
You’re uncomfortable with priorities shifting mid-sprint
You’d rather avoid AI-assisted tools than integrate them into your workflow
