Software Developer – Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join their team in Kansas City, MO on a contract-to-hire basis. This position will focus on full-stack software development and the delivery of data-driven technology solutions that support complex infrastructure and business initiatives.

The Software Developer will work across both front-end and back-end development, helping take projects from initial concept through final implementation. This role will involve collaborating with users and technical teams, integrating data sources and models, developing web-based applications, and supporting data-driven decision-making capabilities.

The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver who can work independently while also collaborating with and leading other engineers. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to understand both technical and customer requirements are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in user interviews to understand technical requirements and customer needs.
  • Develop front-end website architecture using modern development platforms and frameworks.
  • Design and implement user interactions and web-based interfaces.
  • Develop back-end code and business logic to support data-driven applications.
  • Integrate existing datasets, data models, and related technologies.
  • Develop and maintain semantic object models and ontologies.
  • Create and maintain servers, databases, and datasets as required for application functionality.
  • Monitor and maintain data connections and pipelines utilizing technologies such as filesystem, JDBC, SFTP, and webhooks.
  • Ensure applications and data solutions comply with applicable security protocols and data-handling requirements.
  • Develop responsive web applications and optimize applications across platforms and devices.
  • Support mobile and cross-platform optimization.
  • Take ownership of projects from conception through final product delivery.
  • Ensure solutions meet both technical requirements and customer expectations.
  • Troubleshoot issues and identify opportunities to improve application performance and functionality.
  • Stay current with developments in web applications, software development methodologies, and programming languages.
  • Collaborate with engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement new features.
  • Lead other engineers in the development and delivery of project features as needed.
  • Apply strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple priorities and deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages, coding principles, and software development practices.
  • Strong knowledge of web development frameworks and technologies.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and team-building abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain applicable certifications as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Palantir Foundry.
  • Proficiency with fundamental front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript libraries such as Lodash, Math.js, Moment, Numeral, and ES6 Shim.
  • Experience with server-side programming and structured data processing using technologies such as:
    • Python
    • PySpark
    • Java
    • Apache Spark
    • SparkSQL
  • Familiarity with database technologies such as MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with business intelligence and data science tools such as Power BI, Jupyter, and RStudio.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience leading software development teams or mentoring engineers.
  • Experience developing data-driven applications and integrating multiple data sources.
