Job Description

The Role

As a Senior Specialist - Software Development reporting to the Head of Market Data and AI Enablement, you'll play a key hands-on role in designing, developing, troubleshooting, and supporting large-scale web applications for Nasdaq's Market Data Platform. This highly complex and business-critical platform powers market data experiences across Nasdaq.com and supports millions of retail investors worldwide, serving market data at massive scale and handling approximately 300 billion requests per month.

We are looking for a highly technical Software Developer with 6-12+ years of industry experience who is comfortable owning features end-to-end, from design and development through production support. You'll bring strong software engineering fundamentals, a focus on code quality and maintainability, and the ability to develop, troubleshoot, and operate complex web platforms in a fast-paced engineering environment.

You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy hands-on development, solving complex production issues, improving performance and reliability, and contributing to operational excellence across a business-critical platform.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, maintain, and support enterprise applications, scalable web applications, REST APIs, and system integrations.

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, reliable, and maintainable technical solutions.

  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical planning while contributing to application modernization and digital transformation initiatives.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, support releases and deployments, and implement sustainable solutions that improve system reliability and performance.

  • Drive automation, engineering best practices, secure software development, and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.

  • Mentor team members, provide technical leadership, and collaborate with global teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

  • Leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate development, testing, debugging, documentation, code reviews, and overall developer productivity.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, with 6-12+ years of enterprise software development experience.

  • Strong hands-on coding experience with C# and .NET technologies.

  • Experience building, maintaining, and supporting APIs in enterprise environments.

  • Hands-on experience developing websites and web applications using modern web technologies.

  • Strong SQL Server programming skills, including query optimization, stored procedures, performance tuning, and database troubleshooting.

  • Experience diagnosing and resolving production issues in complex, business-critical environments.

  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.

  • Understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability, reliability, and performance best practices.

  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools to improve developer productivity, software quality, and delivery speed.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with large-scale, business-critical platforms.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure would be an asset.

  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, monitoring, and observability tools.

  • Experience within financial services, capital markets, fintech, or another regulated industry.

This position will be located in Toronto and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
