Amazon"s Advertising Technology team builds the technology infrastructure to manage billions of advertising queries every day. The result is better quality advertising for publishers and more relevant ads for customers. In this organization you"ll experience the benefits of working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment, while leveraging the resources of Amazon.com (AMZN), one of the world"s leading companies.

Amazon Publisher Services (APS) helps publishers of all sizes and on all channels better monetize their content through effective advertising. APS unites publishers with advertisers across devices and media channels. We work with Amazon teams across the globe to solve complex problems for our customers. The end results are Amazon products that let publishers focus on what they do best - publishing.

APS is revolutionizing live sports advertising with high-performance ad technology and real-time optimization across the world"s biggest sporting events. We"re building the next generation of infrastructure for live sports-tackling millisecond-critical decisioning at Amazon scale while delivering effective monetization for publishers and relevant ads for viewers.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will design and build the systems that power real-time ad decisioning for live sports at massive scale. You will work on low-latency, high-throughput services that handle millions of concurrent viewers during the world"s biggest sporting events. Your work will directly impact how ads are selected, served, and optimized in real time, delivering relevant experiences to viewers while maximizing publisher revenue.

This role involves building distributed systems that operate under strict latency constraints, developing server-side ad insertion infrastructure, implementing programmatic auction mechanics, and creating real-time bidding pipelines that process billions of requests. You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to solve complex technical challenges at the intersection of advertising technology and live streaming.

A successful candidate is passionate about building high-performance systems, thrives on solving hard distributed systems problems, and takes ownership of their work from design through production. You write clean, maintainable code, think critically about system reliability and scalability, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where your contributions have direct customer impact.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain low-latency, high-availability services for real-time ad decisioning during live sports events
  • Implement and improve programmatic auction and real-time bidding systems operating under strict SLA requirements
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to maintain engineering excellence
  • Contribute to system design discussions, technical documentation, and architectural decisions
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, participating in on-call rotations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, data engineering, and demand-side platform teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency

About the Company

A

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
