When a championship final streams to hundreds of millions of viewers without a single buffer - when a retailer absorbs ten times normal traffic on the busiest shopping day of the year - when a public service stays reachable through a nation-scale DDoS attack - that"s AWS infrastructure, operating invisibly beneath it all.
AWS CloudFront sits at the center of nearly every major internet event. Our Control Plane is its decision-making brain: we don"t serve the bytes - we govern how, where, and under what rules they move across 700+ edge locations worldwide. Every configuration change, every enforced policy, every rotated certificate flows through the systems we own.
We build, we ship, we operate what we own. And the biggest bet we"re making right now is this: the days of manually clicking through consoles to configure infrastructure are numbered. We"re building what replaces it.
Today, customers manage CloudFront, WAF, and Shield through consoles, CLIs, and APIs. Tomorrow, they"ll describe what they want, and intelligent systems will make it happen - reasoning through tradeoffs, proposing changes with full transparency, and executing safely on a global scale.
We"re hiring an SDE II to build the intelligent layer between customer intent and infrastructure execution - unifying content delivery, web application security, and DDoS defense into a single, agentic surface. You"ll work at the intersection of distributed systems, applied AI, and developer experience, shipping production autonomy into one of the most critical networks on the internet.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and ship agentic console experiences that replace static configuration workflows with conversational interfaces backed by real-time visualization and observability for CloudFront, WAF, and Shield.
- Build the agent experience (AX) layer, including the skills, protocols, and tooling that enable first- and third-party AI agents to safely configure, observe, and optimize edge infrastructure.
- Architect autonomous planning systems that decompose customer goals into validated, multi-service infrastructure operations at global scale.
- Engineer proactive detection and recommendation engines that surface security gaps, performance issues, and configuration drift before customers notice.
- Integrate natural-language interaction into the management surface so customers can ask operational questions and receive answers grounded in their real-time telemetry.
- Develop higher-level infrastructure abstractions (Terraform modules, CDK patterns) that reduce complexity for infrastructure-as-code workflows.
- Own features end-to-end, from design doc through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operation.
- Work backwards from customers to identify problems, propose innovative solutions, and raise the bar on quality, accessibility, and performance.
- Collaborate across organizational boundaries with AI/ML platform, application security, observability, and partner teams to deliver integrated experiences.
- Establish engineering patterns, testing strategies, operational runbooks, and architectural standards the broader team adopts.
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and helping the team navigate ambiguity with clarity.
- Participate in on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, keeping stakeholders and customers informed.
- Stay current with front-end and applied-AI advances and bring new ideas into how the console evolves.
A day in the life
As an SDE II, you"ll solve hard problems at AWS scale and influence millions of customers who rely on CloudFront, WAF, and Shield. You"ll own and deliver large features end to end - from planning through implementation at a pace measured in weeks, not years.
Working with designers, product managers, and partner teams, you"ll build the services and intelligent console experiences that govern how content and security move across the edge. You"ll improve the customer experience directly: shipping agentic workflows, fixing bugs and performance issues, sharpening diagnostics and metrics, and acting on user feedback - delivering software with Agile practices that makes a measurable impact at internet scale.
About the team
We"re the CloudFront Console team building the management surface for one of the internet"s largest content delivery and security networks. Our mission is to reinvent how customers interact with CloudFront, WAF, and Shield: moving from static configuration screens to an intelligent, agentic console that understands customer intent, reasons about it, and surfaces trustworthy proposals backed by real-time visualization and observability.
Our culture is evidence over opinion, teaching over gatekeeping, and ownership over delegation. We value small, frequent changes, measure outcomes rather than hours, and protect focus time so builders can build. We"re in the early chapters of a multi-year transformation of the console experience - and intelligent, agentic automation is the central thesis.
Why Join Us
- Genuine autonomy at genuine scale - Not a proof-of-concept. Production intelligent systems governing billions of daily requests across the internet"s most demanding customers.
- Foundational timing - We"re defining the architecture now. You won"t inherit legacy decisions - you"ll make the decisions others inherit.
- The full stack of the future - From agentic console experiences to AX protocols to AI-driven internal development, you"ll touch every layer of where infrastructure management is headed.
- Unified problem space - Content delivery, application security, and DDoS defense treated as one surface. The engineering complexity is real and rewarding.
- Industry-shaping work - How humans and AI collaborate to manage infrastructure is an unsolved problem everywhere. The patterns you establish here will influence the industry for a decade.
Work-life balance as a practice, not a poster - We protect focus time, we don"t celebrate heroics, and we measure output by impact not hours.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.
Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.
It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter
