Title: Software Development Engineer III

Location: 1 Washington Park, Newark, NJ 07102

Duties: Serve as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle end-to-end, from scoping, planning, conception, design, implementation, and testing, to documentation, delivery, and maintenance. Participate in the design, development, implementation, testing and documentation of distributed and highly scalable software applications, tools, systems, and services using Java, Node.js or Object-Oriented Design. Provide design reviews for other engineers, including feedback on architecture and design issues, as well as integration, performance, and scalability. Manage resources on multiple technical projects and ensure schedules, milestones, and priorities are compatible with technology and business goals. Translate functional requirements into robust, efficient, supportable solutions that work well within the overall system architecture. Produce comprehensive, usable software documentation. Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools. Mentor junior development engineers. Position reports into Newark, NJ office; however, telecommuting may also be allowed.

Requirements: Requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or other occupation involving experience in software development. Experience may be gained concurrently and must include:

Two (2) years in each of the following:

  • Designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, or distributed, and highly scalable software applications, tools, systems, or services using Java, Node.js, or Object-Oriented Design
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • Working with version control systems including Git or similar
  • Working with relational databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle, or non-relational databases including DynamoDB
  • Working with web technologies (HTML, CSS, or JavaScript) or web services (RESTful APIs)
  • Creating and maintaining large-scale distributed applications or services leveraging cloud infrastructure
  • Developing secure cloud applications using AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) policy based authorization
  • Integrating security best practices into the development lifecycle, including encryption at-rest and in-transit, role-based access control, or secure API authentication mechanisms
  • Deploying and autoscaling AWS Simple Workflow (SWF)-based services using custom scaling policies
  • Working with AWS Transcribe and Rekognition services to automate content policy checks on audio and images.

One (1) year in each of the following:

  • Providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Building containerized cloud applications using Elasticsearch, NoSQL databases, AWS CDK, or AWS CloudFormation.

Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience.

Salary: $189,592 - $250,200/year. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
