    Job Description

The Registries team at Amazon is seeking a passionate and experienced Sr. Software Development Engineer to help shape the future of how customers plan and celebrate life"s most meaningful moments - from welcoming a new baby and getting married, to moving into a new home, celebrating a birthday, and everything in between. We build the registry experiences that make it easy for people to discover the right products, share their wishes with loved ones, and get the things they actually need.

What makes this team unique is the breadth of the problem we"re solving. Customers come to us at important life moments, often overwhelmed by choices and unsure where to start - and our job is to make that experience feel simple and personal.

You"ll work on customer-facing features that touch millions of people every year - across web, mobile, and international markets. The problems you"ll solve are real and meaningful: How do we help a first-time parent figure out what they actually need for a new baby? How do we make it effortless for a gift giver to find something perfect for a couple"s wedding? How do we use AI to make product discovery feel personal rather than generic?

You"ll partner closely with product managers, UX designers, and engineers across personalization, advertising, marketing, and data teams to bring new ideas to life. You"ll own meaningful pieces of our technical roadmap - including AI-driven product discovery, automated merchandising, experience unification across registry types, and expansion into new occasions and international markets.

    Key job responsibilities

    • You will provide technical leadership to our engineering team and work closely with engineering and product leaders to deliver solutions to our customers.
    • You will assist in solving ambiguous business problems by mapping them to elegant technical solutions.
    • You will use object-oriented concepts, algorithms and data structures to build and future-proof systems at Amazon scale.
    • You will design, launch, and re-architect multi-tier distributed systems with large amounts of data.
    • You will quickly adapt to a fast-paced development environment with bias towards simple and extensible code.
    • You will provide mentorship and guidance for peers on their journeys at Amazon.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
