    Job Description

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many billions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well.

Our inventory systems are the authoritative source of information for billions of inventory units that Amazon holds in its logistical networks, worldwide. As new inventory arrives to our networks, inventory systems enable Amazon"s supply chain to route products to optimal locations based on space availability, customer demand and buying patterns. Inventory systems track the state of all items and their location, and share the availability to upstream systems, to make the items sellable on the Amazon website. When customer orders come in, inventory systems reserve specific items and track them through various stages of order fulfillment, until shipments are delivered to customers. Throughout this end-to-end inventory movement, inventory systems detect discrepancies between virtual and physical states of inventory, and enable corrections of virtual inventory state via both preventative and mitigating mechanisms.

The AFT Inventory org is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Manager to lead our Genealogy platform development. This role will shape the future of how fulfillment centers tracks end-to-end inventory history, which is critical to inventory defect prevention and inventory movement optimization. As the SDM of this charter, you"ll lead development of platform systems that handle billions of inventory events daily.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of big data technology, GenAI, directly impacting Amazon"s inventory management efficiency and accuracy. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in big data technologies, cloud computing, database management, and GenAI, along with strong leadership and problem-solving skills to drive innovation in this complex and dynamic field. If this sounds exciting to you, you'll find this role to be engaging, challenging, and full of opportunities to learn and grow.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
