Job Title: Software Development Manager - Industrial Control & Optical Measurement Systems
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a small, high-performing engineering team developing advanced software solutions for industrial control systems and optical measurement platforms. This role combines hands-on .NET development in C++ and C# with a true player-coach leadership style, balancing direct coding responsibilities with team leadership, project planning, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with customers and end users to understand how inspection systems are used in the field, translate their needs into robust software solutions, and support a large installed base of legacy systems. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing software that enhances the accuracy, efficiency, and performance of both new and existing glass inspection systems, while contributing to the broader leadership team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Burnsville, MN.

Work Environment
This role is based on-site at an engineering-focused facility in Burnsville, MN, where you will work closely with both local and international teams. The environment centers on high-tech industrial control and optical measurement systems, including glass inspection platforms that combine software, cameras, sensors, and mechanical equipment. You will split your time approximately 50/50 between hands-on development work and leadership activities such as planning, coordination, and mentoring. The technology stack is primarily .NET with C# and C++, with integration to hardware devices and collaboration on shared codebases with a strong engineering team in Austria. You will collaborate across a 7-8 hour time difference, with a few overlapping hours each day and recurring joint meetings approximately every other week, while maintaining respect for work-life balance and minimizing off-hours communication. Occasional travel to Austria, approximately one to two times per year, supports deeper collaboration, planning, and alignment with the international team. The culture emphasizes responsiveness to customer needs, including timely responses to customer calls and the ability to visit customer sites to troubleshoot unexpected issues in person. You will work directly with inspection machinery and hardware, requiring comfort in a hands-on engineering environment where software and physical systems intersect. The facility supports a professional engineering atmosphere focused on innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement in high-tech industrial inspection solutions.
