As the Software Development Manager for OIS Console Foundations, you lead the team that owns the common platform every Operational Infrastructure Services (OIS) team builds on. Your team delivers the Console foundations service teams inherit instead of rebuilding - authorization, notifications, global search, the cloudscape component library, distributed tracing, and the embedded AI layer, so customers get answers and take action directly in the Console rather than filing a request. Thousands of solution owners across Amazon"s global operations sites depend on these capabilities to deploy network, compute, and devices without learning infrastructure internals. You hire and grow the engineers who build them, set technical direction with Principal Engineers and product managers, and earn adoption from partner service teams by proving value rather than mandating use.
You"ll be joining a team that"s at the forefront of infrastructure innovation, working on greenfield projects with significant business impact, and building solutions that directly enable Amazon"s operations teams to move faster and more efficiently.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate has built and operated customer-facing distributed systems and has led or mentored engineers through ambiguous, multi-quarter work. You work well with senior engineers on hard technical calls, you keep the customer outcome first, you disagree and commit, and you raise the operational bar for your team.
A day in the life
As a Software Development Manager on our team, you own the health and growth of your engineering team and the impact it delivers. You hire and develop engineers, raise the bar for design and operational excellence, and partner with
principal engineers and product managers to shape technical direction and prioritize the roadmap against real constraints. Much of your impact comes through influence rather than authority. You earn adoption of shared Console capabilities from
partner service teams by demonstrating value, and you weigh speed, safety, and long-term maintainability as your team builds the foundations and embedded AI capabilities that other OIS teams rely on. You"ll explore emerging AI tools and bring
your learnings back to strengthen the platform and your team. This is a role where people leadership, technical judgment, and customer obsession come together to make building on OIS Console faster and more self-service.

If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we"d still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!
About the team
The Infrastructure Directed Work Orchestrator (IDO) team is part of Customer Experience Infrastructure (CXI), the Amazon organization that helps operations teams get the network, compute, and end-user devices (laptops, scanners, printers) they need to run Amazon"s buildings. We build self-service tools that let those teams get infrastructure faster and at lower cost, in every region Amazon operates in. We measure success through total cost of ownership, speed to market, throughput, and availability.
When an Amazon warehouse, sort center, or delivery station needs new infrastructure, someone has to do physical work on site: survey the building, run cables, install network ports. Today program managers, on-site IT teams, and third-party contractors coordinate that work by hand. The IDO team is automating it. We build a serverless orchestration service on AWS. It turns an infrastructure request into a work order, routes it to the right team or vendor, and tracks it to completion against a service-level agreement. It then reports status back to the requesting team, across thousands of Amazon sites worldwide. Our roadmap expands IDO to cover every type of on-site infrastructure work. It also adds a registry of pre-qualified contractors so work routes directly to them, and extends orchestration to large internal programs and equipment repairs
