    Android Software Engineer (Automotive Infotainment)
    Location: Waterloo Engineering Center (Fully Onsite)
    Employment Type: Contract (details available upon request)

    Overview
    Epitec is seeking an experienced Android Software Engineer to join a high-performing team developing critical features for a modern in-vehicle infotainment platform. This role offers the opportunity to design, build, test, and support customer-facing functionality used by millions of drivers every day.
    You will work in a fast-paced Agile environment alongside talented software developers and test engineers, helping deliver a seamless media playback experience that customers depend on every time they get behind the wheel.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, develop, test, and support new Android-based infotainment features.
    • Implement customer-facing functionality with a strong focus on quality, performance, and reliability.
    • Collaborate within an Agile software development team.
    • Investigate, debug, and resolve software defects.
    • Develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes for future product enhancements.
    • Write and maintain unit tests to ensure code quality and stability.
    • Participate in peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
    • Test and validate software in real-world automotive environments.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
    • 3+ years of Android development experience.
    • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java.
    • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Kotlin.
    • Experience working at the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) level, including:
      • Headless services
      • APIs
      • AIDLs
      • HAL/HIDL
    • Strong understanding of object-oriented design and development principles.
    • Experience executing xTS test suites and troubleshooting reported issues.
    • Experience with unit testing and mocking frameworks such as:
      • gTest
      • gMock
      • Robolectric
      • Mockito
    • Strong knowledge of software design patterns and best practices.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with Agile development methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
    • Android application development experience.
    • Experience using Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
    • Advanced debugging skills using gdb and static analysis tools.
    • Experience flashing hardware modules.
    • Strong Linux proficiency.
    • Embedded software development experience in automotive, mobile, or related environments.
    • Experience with C programming.
    • Master's degree in a related field.
