Job Description:
- Develop, enhance, and support software solutions for automated laboratory and industrial systems. Design and implement software that integrates instrumentation, machine vision, data acquisition, and enterprise data systems to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability of research and operational processes.
- Manager looking for: Software development, Industrial automation, Instrument integration, Imaging systems, and Laboratory systems
- Don't send over: general software developers, junior automation engineers, or candidates lacking robotics/machine vision experience
- Scope (global, regional or local):
- Global support for automation initiatives supporting seed production innovation and product supply. Works across multidisciplinary teams to deliver software and automation solutions supporting research, testing, and operational workflows.
Key Tasks:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software for engineering and laboratory systems.
- Develop applications using C#, MATLAB, Python, C++, or related technologies.
- Integrate software with instrumentation, sensors, cameras, robotics, and motion control platforms.
- Develop software interfaces between automation systems, databases, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.
- Support machine vision and image-processing software applications.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Troubleshoot software and system integration issues.
- Develop technical documentation, software specifications, and user guides.
- Follow software engineering best practices including version control, testing, cybersecurity, and code reviews.

- Engineering Capability Hub engineers and technicians
- Seed Production Innovation teams
- Product Supply personnel
- External contractors, suppliers, and equipment vendors as applicable.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience developing software for automation, industrial, scientific, or engineering systems.
- Strong programming skills in C#, MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar object-oriented languages.
- Experience integrating software with hardware systems, instrumentation, sensors, machine vision, robotics, or industrial control platforms.
- Knowledge of industrial automation architectures, control systems, and communication protocols.
- Experience with source control, software testing, and modern software engineering practices.
- Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work full-time on-site at St. Louis, Missouri research facilities.
