    Description

    Epitec is seeking a Controls Engineer for the largest U.S. automaker in Sterling Heights, MI.

    This role is responsible for developing, implementing, troubleshooting, and improving automation, controls, CNC systems, PLCs, robotics, and manufacturing software systems that support production operations.

    The ideal candidate will have strong PLC programming experience, manufacturing controls expertise, and the ability to lead complex troubleshooting and root-cause investigations in a highly automated environment.

    • Location: Sterling Heights, MI

    • Shift: Morning Shift | 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

    • W2 Contract: Long-Term

    • Pay Range: Market Rate

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement improvements to manufacturing control systems using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data.

    • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of equipment performance issues.

    • Coordinate resources to identify and resolve automation, machinery, and controls problems.

    • Support manufacturing personnel and plant electricians through training and technical guidance.

    • Integrate controls systems with Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS.

    • Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, PLCs, CNC equipment, and production downtime issues.

    • Utilize plant monitoring software to analyze equipment cycle times and production performance.

    • Coordinate and review automation and controls project installations.

    • Reprogram equipment to support engineering changes and process improvements.

    • Maintain backups of machine and automation programs.

    • Program new automation, manufacturing equipment, robots, and material handling systems.

    • Participate in equipment risk assessments and machine safety evaluations.


    Requirements

    Required

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • 5+ years of controls engineering, automation, PLC, or manufacturing systems experience

    • Experience with:

      • PLC programming and troubleshooting

      • CNC controls

      • Manufacturing automation systems

      • Software systems integration

    • Experience with:

      • Siemens PLCs

      • Allen-Bradley PLCs

      • Rexroth PLCs

    • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills

    • Ability to work with UAW maintenance teams, vendors, and production teams

    • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

    • Strong communication and leadership skills

    Preferred

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

    • Robotics experience

    • Computer Vision experience

    • Siemens Step 7 programming

    • Siemens TIA Portal programming

    • Siemens Powerline and Solution Line configuration

    • Fanuc controls troubleshooting

    • CNC troubleshooting expertise

    • Lean Manufacturing

    • Six Sigma methodologies

    • 8D Problem Solving

    • 5 Why Analysis

    • UL508A knowledge

    • NFPA79 knowledge

    • Lean tools including:

      • 5S

      • Kanban

      • Poka-Yoke

      • Value Stream Mapping
