Software Engineer, Data & AI (Experienced or Early Career) Location: Hybrid in Chicago (3 days onsite) or fully remote from New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Texas or Washington, DC, with quarterly travel to Chicago (expenses reimbursed)

The team works like a startup, building new products and platforms from the ground up and applying AI to complex, high-value legal work. Engineers work directly with senior leaders, product decisions move fast, and there's room to grow into leadership.
About the Role You'll design and build modern, scalable web applications with React, Next.js, .NET and Azure, and help shape the architecture and standards the team builds on. The role is open to experienced engineers, who will own complex features and raise the bar for the team, and to recent Master's graduates, who will ship real features with close mentorship. Scope and ownership grow with your experience.
What You'll Do- Build, test and maintain full-stack applications across the front end, APIs and data layer
- Carry features from design to production and support them live
- Work with product, design and fellow engineers to scope and launch new features
- Ship tested, maintainable code and trade code reviews with teammates
- Find and fix performance bottlenecks from the browser to the database
- Build security in from the start: authentication, authorization and data protection
- Support CI/CD pipelines and Azure releases with DevOps
- Mentor teammates (experienced) or learn through pairing and feedback (early career)
What You Bring Experienced level:
- Bachelor's in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of full-stack development
- Strong skills in a modern web stack such as React, Next.js, .NET and Azure, or similar
- A track record designing and building scalable APIs or microservices
- Relational or NoSQL databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL
- Git, Agile, and reliable, observable, maintainable production code
Early-career level:
- A recent Master's in computer science, software engineering or a related field
- Solid grounding in data structures, algorithms and system design
- Hands-on experience with C# or Python
- Real code from internships, research or substantial projects
- Working knowledge of web development: front ends, APIs, databases or cloud

- Clear communication, sound judgment and discretion with confidential information
- Organized and steady under pressure with competing deadlines
- Willing to attend an in-person final interview at the nearest office if requested
