Software Engineer

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a mission-driven technology organization supporting critical national security programs, for an experienced Software Engineer to join their team in Herndon, Virginia. This is an opportunity to design and build sophisticated, high-impact software systems using object-oriented development practices across C#, Java, and C++, while working alongside a team of cleared engineers solving problems that matter at the national level.

Day to day, you will move fluidly between backend logic, database integration, and modern front-end work in React, contributing across the full software lifecycle from design through testing and deployment. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications using object-oriented principles in C#, Java, and C++
• Build and integrate front-end interfaces using React and modern UI frameworks
• Design and implement SQL database schemas and integrate applications with relational databases
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
• Write and execute unit, integration, and system tests to ensure software quality
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and technical solutions
• Support software integration efforts across multiple interconnected systems
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects across the full application stack
• Document software designs, code changes, and technical decisions
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance with adjudicated CI Polygraph is required
• DoD 8570 IAT/IAM compliant certification such as Security+, SSCP, CISSP, or CASP
• Strong experience with object-oriented software development principles and design patterns
• Proficiency in C#, Java, and C++
• Experience with SQL and relational database integration
• Hands-on experience building user interfaces with React or similar modern frameworks
• Demonstrated experience working within Agile development and testing methodologies
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a cleared, team-based environment
