Job Summary

This role supports the development of the Walgreens Digital/Online platform, with a focus on full stack engineering across both front-end and back-end systems. You will build and enhance applications used at scale, working in an Agile environment with a strong emphasis on hands-on development, deployments, and troubleshooting.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Java

  • Build and enhance front-end applications using React or Angular

  • Deliver features end-to-end across the full stack

  • Participate in Agile development and collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Troubleshoot issues and support deployments and CI/CD pipelines

  • Identify and help resolve system or performance issues

Tech & Tools

  • Backend: Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs

  • Frontend: React or Angular, JavaScript

  • Databases: Oracle, MySQL, or MongoDB

  • Cloud: Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud

  • DevOps: CI/CD, Docker

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs and implements daily operational activities that generally influence mid-level components / processes of technology function, including but not limited to writing code and scripts that provide desired functionality to the software products and programs. Performs and implements daily operational activities that impact discrete components / processes of the engineering work function, and may include responsibilities, such as: participating in improvement and monitoring of deployment operations on pre-release, upgrades and current versions of software; participating in evaluating compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features; participating in development of protocols to support established standards; improving operation and monitoring of standard and advanced features; participating in development of processes and interface requirements; participating in data development and definition of acceptance criteria.
  • Creates, develops and maintains software code working in an agile environment.
  • Evolves software solutions that meet product functionality and quality needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, schedules and adherence to program goals and principles.
  • Analyzes and reviews system requirements. Uses requirement and other design documents to gain overall understanding of the functionality of the new or enhanced application.
  • Participates in the design, architecture and build phases, to aim at producing high quality deliverables, working with existing architects where appropriate. Participates in the evaluation of compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features.
  • Provides recommendations on product and development environment improvements.
  • Reviews and maintains sprint tasks and issue tracking for products
  • Maintains and supports existing and develops web-based prototypes, applications and tools.
  • Effectively resolves problems, roadblocks and basic problems as they occur.
  • Gathers and updates necessary information and communicates to appropriate parties
  • Coordinates cross-functionally to accomplish activities. Interacts with internal and external peers and/or managers to exchange semi-complex information related to assigned activities.   • Identifies and determines likely reasons for problematic causes. Prepares accurate documentation and communication to effectively facilitate elimination of problems / roadblocks as they occur and create efficient fixes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field of study OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of coding web or mobile applications
  • Knowledge of Agile
  • Willing to travel up to 10 % of the time for business purposes ((within state and out of state)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions, and contributing to solutions that drive improved outcomes
  • Experience identifying operational issues and supporting the implementation of strategies to resolve them

DevOps

  • Experience with DevOps practices
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby
  • Working knowledge of automation and configuration tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Working knowledge of containerization (e.g., Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Exposure to cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform, and Linux environments

Web / Backend Development

  • Experience as a web or backend developer
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Node.js, .NET, JavaScript, HTML, or similar
  • Working knowledge of modern UI frameworks (e.g., React, Angular)
  • Knowledge of relational (e.g., Oracle, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases
  • Exposure to cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Cloud Foundry

Mobile Development

  • iOS: Knowledge of Swift and/or SwiftUI
  • Android: Knowledge of Kotlin

Data & Analytics

  • Exposure to building analytics solutions using cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
