Your Role:
As a Software Engineer II - Backend, you will have the ability to craft, enhance, or create new functionalities for pet parents. As a full stack developer, you will have the ability to experience working with microservice based backend, batch jobs and UI for solving challenging customer and business problems. Your work will directly impact millions of customers who care for their furry family members every day. You will be a part of an amazing team and contributing to a growth initiative.
What You'll Do:
• Design, develop and implement solutions using varied technologies focusing on scalability, latency, and resiliency.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into well-defined technical solutions and deliver high-quality features.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code, develop clear technical designs, and participate in code and design reviews to ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
• Contribute to the evolution of service architecture, data architecture, DevOps practices, infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and public cloud services as part of a collaborative software development team.
• Communicate development progress, risks, and technical trade-offs to stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers while leading by example through strong engineering practices.
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
• Participate in on-call rotations to monitor production systems and investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents to maintain system reliability.
• Position may require travel.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related field) or equivalent work experience.
• 4+ years of experience with Java and with related frameworks - Spring Webflux and/or Spring Boot.
• 4+ years of experience building, deploying, testing APIs and micro services in a distributed systems environment.
• 2+ years of experience developing features using PostgreSQL or other SQL-based databases.
• 2+ years of experience in system design.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or similar tool.
• Experience with Playwright or similar automation testing tools.
• Experience with AWS cloud and terraform.
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with high-performing and scalable systems.
• Ability to think independently and break down product requirements into well-defined tasks.
• Experience in monitoring the production environment, troubleshooting, triaging, and addressing production issues.

Preferred:
• Hands-on experience developing user interfaces using React.js, including component design, state management, TypeScript and integration with RESTful APIs.
• Experience in e-commerce.

The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $190,000.00.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
