The DevX Tools team is part of Engineering Platforms Developer Experience organization. We are responsible for improving the developer experience through tooling automation and centralization of critical information needed by developers across the organization. Our tools - including an Internal Developer Portal and an Automated Slack Messaging Systems are used daily by 280 engineers and are foundational to how CarGurus ships discovers and builds software. As a Software Development Engineer II IC2 you will contribute to building and maintaining the internal platforms and tools that empower every product engineering team at CarGurus. Youll work alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative hybrid environment and grow your skills across the full stack from backend services and APIs to cloud-native integrations and agentic automations. What youll do Design develop test deploy and operate well-architected software systems that improve the developer experience across CarGurus engineering. Build features for Showroom our internal developer portal that powers deployments governance software catalogs and self-service workflows. Support initiatives such as jobs replatforming AI-powered code review tooling agent-driven provisioning workflows AI-powered AWS infrastructure provisioning and CICD pipeline modernization. Facilitate the modernization of an internal developer portal into an AI-first developer platform introducing AI-powered tooling to streamline workflows enhancing the developer experience and supporting large-scale multi-repository engineering environments. What youll bring 2 years of professional software development experience. Strong foundation in Java and familiarity with object-oriented design algorithms and data structures. Experience building web applications or backend services ideally with Spring Boot Spring Framework. A systematic approach to debugging issues within a service or module including performance impacts. Understanding of the testing pyramid and experience writing automated tests at multiple levels. Familiarity with AWS services Kubernetes infrastructure-as-code practices and CICD tooling. Exposure to front-end technologies JavaScript React Remix for building developer-facing UIs is a plus. Interest in AI-powered developer tool and agentic workflows The displayed range represents the expected annual base salary On-Target Earnings OTE for this position. On-Target Earnings OTE is inclusive of base salary and on-target commission earnings which applies exclusively to sales roles. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and other factors such as job-related skills experience and relevant education or training. This annual base salary forms part of a comprehensive Total Rewards Package. In addition to benefits this role may qualify for discretionary bonusesincentives and Restricted Stock Units RSUs.
