    Description

How do you get items to customers quickly, cost-effectively, and-most importantly-safely, in less than an hour using autonomous delivery drones? Prime Air is applying state-of-the-art technologies to solve real-world delivery challenges at unprecedented scale. We"re seeking a Software Development Engineer II who thrives in an iterative environment where you can drive innovation and deliver tangible benefits to customers. You"ll design scalable software solutions that power the future of autonomous delivery, working on systems that require sophisticated problem-solving in areas spanning design patterns, reliability, and scaling.

Join a team of top-notch developers and product experts who are making history by transforming last-mile delivery. You"ll tackle hard problems at the intersection of robotics, aviation, and distributed systems-building technology that"s already delivering to customers and scaling to reach millions more. If you"re passionate about innovation and want to see your code take flight, Prime Air offers a unique opportunity to work on technology that"s reshaping logistics.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Design and implement scalable software solutions across the full development lifecycle, including scoping, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance of systems that power autonomous delivery operations
    • Lead technical design reviews and actively participate in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to peers and ensuring high-quality, maintainable code that adheres to best practices
    • Collaborate with product teams, stakeholders, and cross-functional engineers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, balancing customer needs with system reliability and performance constraints
    • Resolve complex technical challenges in distributed systems by identifying simple, elegant designs that address visible risks and roadblocks in areas such as real-time data processing, system reliability, and scaling
    • Drive operational excellence by actively supporting production systems, identifying root causes of issues, and implementing permanent solutions while continuously identifying opportunities to improve team operations and software quality

    A day in the life

You"ll work closely with a team of talented developers and collaborate with product managers to solve challenging problems in autonomous delivery. Your days will be filled with designing system architectures, writing code that powers drone delivery operations, and participating in technical discussions that shape the future of Prime Air. You"ll balance building new features with operational improvements, engage in code reviews that foster knowledge-sharing, and tackle problems that blend software engineering with real-world logistics. You"ll innovate, work hard, have fun, and make history as your contributions help scale Prime Air to reach more customers.

    About the team

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
