XIn accordance with Washington state law, we are highlighting our comprehensive benefits package, which is available to all eligible US based employees. Benefits for this role include:

• Paid Time Off: 20 days of vacation per year, accruing at a rate of 6.15 hours per pay period for the first five years of employment

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.

• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

• Experience with cloud compute platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Google Cloud Functions).

• Experience working with Linux Kernels internals.

• Experience in software development using one or more programming languages, including but not limited to Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, or Go.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working with network and security protocols in operating systems (e.g., Unix, Linux).
• Experience in device driver development, with a focus on GPU drivers.
• Experience working on operating system kernels, including CPU scheduling, memory management, or resource allocation.
• Experience with container runtimes and scheduling engines (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, containerd).
• Experience in performance optimization, tuning, or debugging of distributed systems or cloud-based applications.
• Experience working with network stacks, network protocols, or network device drivers.

As an application kernel for containers, gVisor safeguards major Google services-including GKE Sandbox, Serverless, BigQuery, Google Cloud Functions, and core AI/ML workloads like Gemini. Operating at massive scale, it manages tens of millions of concurrent sandboxes, hundreds of thousands of new instances per second, and billions of hourly requests.

Having established itself as Google"s premier internal container defense technology, gVisor is entering its next phase: scaling advanced capabilities for agentic workloads in alignment with Google Cloud strategy. In this role, advocate by a team, our key priorities include sandboxing at scale, securing internal Google workloads, accelerating AI inference performance, and defining the standard runtime defense for enterprise AI agents.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $211000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

• Increase gVisor performance and compatibility with new types of workloads(including implementing any syscalls or upstream Linux features that may be required). Specifically, sandboxed hardware-accelerated inference tasks and computer-use workflows will be important.
• Work with the GKE team to shape the industry standard for running agentic workloads and sandboxing (Collaborating on implementation of new testing, monitoring, and orchestration infrastructure).
• Develop an understanding of the overall project and current technical roadmap. Proactively define milestones, identify features or deficiencies that matter to users (current and future). Work with other engineers on the team to guide these projects.
• Work with team to invest and grow the OSS project. (define the OSS strategy, providing clarity and plans around Google-internal vs external features, and ensuring that business objectives are met while supporting a healthy OSS community).
