Software Engineer Java, Spring & AWS (Big Data Platform)

We're seeking a Software Engineer to help maintain and enhance a mission-critical, cloud-based data governance platform that supports large-scale enterprise data operations. This platform provides capabilities including data cataloging, data lineage, metadata management, and job orchestration while supporting a highly available production environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working within a mature, enterprise-grade codebase where understanding and improving existing systems is just as important as developing new features. You'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, balancing feature development, production support, modernization initiatives, and platform improvements.

What You'll Do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance a large-scale Java/Spring REST API platform supporting enterprise data governance.
• Design and implement new API capabilities while troubleshooting production issues and resolving software defects.
• Read, understand, and improve existing code with an emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and long-term support.
• Integrate applications with AWS cloud services including S3, EMR, RDS/Aurora, SQS, SNS, and Elasticsearch.
• Maintain and enhance relational database integrations using JPA/Hibernate and PostgreSQL.
• Upgrade application frameworks, third-party libraries, and dependencies while addressing security vulnerabilities.
• Build and improve automated unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure production reliability.
• Support and enhance Angular-based user interface components and SDK clients.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins for automated builds, testing, and deployments.
• Provide technical support to platform users by investigating issues, troubleshooting API behavior, and assisting with integrations.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software development, debugging, testing, and code quality.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Java development experience with Spring Framework and Spring Security.
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs using Spring REST or JAX-RS.
• Solid understanding of JPA/Hibernate and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Amazon Aurora.
• Hands-on experience working with AWS services, including:
  • S3
  • EMR
  • RDS/Aurora
  • SQS
  • SNS
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments using Amazon ECS.
• Proficiency with Maven, Git, and modern software development practices.
• Experience writing automated tests using JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience building and maintaining Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkinsfiles and multi-branch pipelines.
• Experience with application performance testing using Gatling or similar tools.
• Basic knowledge of Angular and TypeScript.
• Experience using AI-assisted software development tools (such as Kiro, GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, Cursor, or similar) to improve developer productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications in production environments.
• Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, or data platform technologies.
• Experience improving application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile development environment and manage multiple priorities.
