Software Engineer - Performance Engineering

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Software Engineer, Performance Engineering to join a team focused on improving the speed, scalability, and reliability of our web and mobile platforms. This is a fully hands-on technical role responsible for designing, executing, and scaling performance engineering practices across frontend and backend systems.You will work closely with digital, application, platform, and data teams to identify performance bottlenecks, implement measurable improvements, and embed performance best practices into development workflows.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Design, implement, and execute performance testing strategies, including load, stress, spike, endurance, and benchmarking tests for web, mobile and backend systems.
• Use and maintain performance testing tools such as k6, Gatling, JMeter, Locust, and related frameworks to build reproducible and scalable test suites.
• Analyze, Improve and resolve performance bottlenecks across the stack, including frontend rendering, APIs, services, databases, caching layers, networking, and distributed systems.
• Drive backend and infrastructure performance improvements, focusing on latency, throughput, resource utilization, and system efficiency.
• Integrate performance testing and regression detection into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring performance is continuously measured and protected.
• Design and build profiling, tracing, and telemetry solutions, using observability tools.
• Partner with engineering teams to identify and solve performance challenges, providing deep technical guidance and hands-on support.
• Develop and lead adoption of performance engineering best practices across multiple teams, helping embed performance considerations early in design and development.
• Design experiments, analyze performance data, and provide actionable recommendations, ensuring improvements are measurable and sustainable.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ year of  experience in software engineering with strong focus on performance optimization, scalability, or observability.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts (caching, concurrency, queuing, resource contention, etc.).
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with performance testing tools (e.g., k6, Gatling, JMeter, Locust) and familiarity with Core Web Vitals and frontend performance monitoring.
• Experience working with metrics, logging, and tracing systems.
• Strong debugging, profiling, and systems-level problem-solving skills.
• Experience collaborating with frontend and backend engineering teams and supporting high-scale or consumer-facing platforms.

The base salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company’s total rewards package for exempt employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives, a PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
