Job Description

This Software Engineer role sits within an advanced technical research group that focuses on early-stage innovation and exploration of emerging technologies. You will design and build functional prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions across a range of electronic and software-driven initiatives. The position emphasizes rapidly producing working code to validate ideas and new technologies rather than delivering fully production-hardened software. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on development, experimentation, and building solutions from the ground up in a fast-paced research environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop software prototypes and proof-of-concept applications to support advanced research initiatives.
• Write and iterate on working code quickly to validate new technologies, concepts, and use cases.
• Collaborate with engineers and architects to ensure solutions align with overall system architecture and technical direction.
• Execute hands-on coding tasks across multiple projects with minimal oversight, delivering functional prototypes on tight timelines.
• Support integration of software into demonstration environments, including vehicle-connected systems and related interfaces.
• Contribute to both standalone applications and systems that interface with in-vehicle technologies and external connections.
• Participate in troubleshooting prototype issues, refining functionality, and improving performance based on feedback.
• Assist in full-stack development efforts when needed, including front-end and application-level components.
• Work effectively within an Agile environment, contributing to iterative development, sprint planning, and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of experience in software development.
• Strong proficiency in C++ (required).
• Strong proficiency in Python (required).
• Experience with front-end or application development frameworks such as React.
• Experience with Android development using Kotlin or a similar language.
• Ability to contribute to full-stack development efforts when needed.
• Experience working in Agile development environments, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience working with databases, including SQL and/or NoSQL technologies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in fast-paced research or innovation environments where rapid prototyping is a priority.
• Comfort using tools such as AI-assisted coding solutions (for example, Copilot) to accelerate development.
• Exposure to systems that interface with vehicle technologies or other hardware-connected environments.
• Willingness to work across multiple technology stacks and adapt to new tools and frameworks as projects evolve.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and refine prototype functionality based on real-world testing.

Work Environment

You will work primarily on laptops and prototype systems rather than strictly embedded hardware, enabling rapid development and iteration. Depending on project needs, you may occasionally work with embedded development and applications that interface with vehicle systems via external connections. Many solutions run locally, but you will also gain exposure to cloud environments, primarily AWS, as part of the research and prototyping process. The team operates in an Agile setting, using methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban to manage work across multiple concurrent projects. The environment encourages experimentation, hands-on coding, and the use of modern development tools, including AI-assisted coding solutions, to accelerate delivery of functional prototypes.

This is a Contract position based out of Raymond, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $48.00/hr.
