Company Description
We're representing a profitable, fast-growing construction technology company modernizing the financial infrastructure of a $12 trillion global industry. Their platform connects fragmented legacy construction software—much of it decades old, on-premise, and without modern APIs—and turns that data into real-time workflows for invoicing, expenses, billing, compliance, and other financial operations.
The company has more than 500 customers, has been profitable and cash-flow positive for over two years, and recently raised a $15M Series A led by Accel with continued participation from Y Combinator. Revenue has tripled year-over-year, and the new funding is being used to scale both the engineering team and product suite.
Engineers here work on difficult backend and infrastructure problems involving legacy system integrations, distributed data synchronization, and highly reliable production systems used directly by customers.
What You Will Do
- Build and scale backend and full-stack systems that synchronize financial and operational data across fragmented construction software.
- Design integrations with legacy systems that may have limited APIs, inconsistent schemas, or little documentation.
- Develop reliable data infrastructure that reads and writes across multiple external systems in near real time.
- Build production services using technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, EC2, and modern cloud infrastructure.
- Own projects end-to-end, from understanding ambiguous requirements through architecture, implementation, testing, and production deployment.
- Work independently on technically complex product areas with limited day-to-day guidance.
- Improve reliability, scalability, observability, and performance across core backend systems.
- Collaborate closely with product and customer-facing teams to understand real-world workflows and translate them into durable technical solutions.
- Help define engineering practices, architecture, and culture as the team grows.
- Contribute across backend and full-stack surfaces as product needs evolve.
Ideal Background
- 1–5 years of professional backend or full-stack software engineering experience.
- Recent experience at a small, high-growth startup, ideally Seed through Series D.
- Proven ability to work independently and take meaningful technical ownership.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals with experience building scalable production systems.
- Experience integrating external systems, APIs, or complex data sources.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
- Experience with relational databases and data-intensive backend systems.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science from a strong U.S. or Canadian university.
- Demonstrated record of excellence through academics, startup impact, technical accomplishments, or other standout achievements.
- Self-motivated, low-ego, and excited by fast-paced startup environments.
- Strong desire to work collaboratively in person in San Francisco five days per week.
Preferred
- Experience at an early-stage startup where engineers owned products or systems from end to end.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS CDK, and EC2.
- Experience building integrations with older or poorly documented enterprise systems.
- Background in fintech infrastructure, accounting workflows, APIs, or operational software.
- Experience building robust systems where data consistency and reliability are critical.
- Strong GitHub, portfolio, side projects, or other evidence of technical curiosity and initiative.
- Founder, founding engineer, or early employee experience.
- Experience working on difficult backend infrastructure rather than primarily AI/LLM application development.
- Interest in building foundational infrastructure for an overlooked, operationally complex industry.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary:$130,000–$240,000.
- Equity: 0.05%–0.20%.
- Five days per week onsite in San Francisco.
- H-1B transfers, OPT, and certain existing visa transfers can be considered.
- Four to six planned engineering hires.
- Join a roughly 40-person company with more than 500 customers.
- Recently raised a $15M Series A led by Accel, bringing total funding to approximately $20.5M.
- Profitable and cash-flow positive for more than two years with revenue tripling year-over-year.
- Interview process includes a 15-minute background screen, 45-minute coding interview, experience/technical deep dive, and full-day onsite.
- Best suited for engineers who want meaningful startup ownership and hard backend/integration problems rather than large-company structure or primarily AI-focused work.
