The Staff Software Engineer is a senior individual contributor who leads the design, development, and delivery of complex software systems. You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure high‑quality, scalable, and secure software/systems solutions that align with business objectives.

  • Technical Leadership: Define and champion software architecture, standards, and best practices across multiple projects and/or product lines.
  • Design & Development: Architect, design, and implement high‑performance, maintainable, and testable code in alignment with product roadmaps.
  • Mentorship & Coaching: Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and career development support to engineers ranging from junior to senior levels.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Drive adoption of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring to ensure reliability and rapid feedback.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, conduct profiling, and implement optimizations for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance: Incorporate security best practices, perform threat modeling, and ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO‑27001, NIST).
  • Innovation: Research emerging technologies, evaluate their applicability, and introduce innovative approaches where beneficial.
  • Documentation: Produce clear technical documentation, design specifications, operational runbooks, etc..

Basic Qualifications:

Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science

Experience: 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or staff‑level role

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in one or more primary languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python, Go)

Deep understanding of software architecture and design (OOAD,OOP, Domain Driven Design, Modeling)

Agile Mindset and methods: Agile values and principles, Kanban/Scrum, Test‑Driven Development (TDD), DevOps practices.

Soft Skills: Excellent communication, strong problem‑solving ability, leadership mindset, and ability to influence without direct authority. |

Must be a US citizen- No Clearance to start but will need the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.

Desired Skills:

Mission knowledge of GPS/PNT systems and architecture

Familiarity with RF concepts, signal processing, and test equipment

Experience developing for multiple processor architectures and platforms (e.g. x86, ARM, Versal ACAP)

Hands on experience working in hardware lab test environments containing servers, RF equipment, and COTS test equipment

Contributions to open‑source projects or publications in technical forums.

Experience with real‑time systems, architectures, and embedded software.

Experience with CI/CD, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (Ansible, Terraform).

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
