Description

U.S. Citizenship and an Active Secret Security Clearance is required.  This job is onsite in Portsmouth, VA.Position OverviewWe are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Software Engineer to support a shipyard-focused program. This role involves building and enhancing custom software solutions, analytics tools, and system integrations that support maintenance operations, performance tracking, and IT system management.The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software development, experience with integrated IT environments—including Navy or defense-related IT systems—and the ability to contribute to data-driven applications and reporting platforms. Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications to support operational and IT system needs
  • Write, test, debug, and optimize code throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Create custom scripts, queries, macros, and analytics tools to support performance tracking and reporting
  • Contribute to the development and sustainment of enterprise IT software solutions
  • Assist with system deployment activities, including testing and release evaluations
  • Build applications that support dashboards, reporting tools, and data visualizations
  • Collaborate with internal teams on software portfolio planning and solution development
  • Develop and implement data integration solutions across multiple systems, including Navy IT systems
  • Support modernization initiatives, including enhancements to system usability and user experience
  • Create interactive training materials and instructional modules related to project management and system usage
  • Participate in program reviews, technical discussions, and governance meetings
  • Assess application performance and identify opportunities for improvement in both functionality and user adoption
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related discipline
  • 4–7 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a related technical discipline
  • Extensive experience (8–10+ years) in software engineering
  • Experience working with Navy IT systems or other large-scale, defense-related IT environments
  • Experience with database development and SQL programming
  • Background in web-based application development and data visualization tools
  • Experience supporting complex, large-scale IT programs
  • Familiarity with enterprise maintenance or operations systems
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments
