Intern – IT Software Engineering

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Software Engineering Intern to join our IS&T Software Engineering team. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting enterprise applications, software development initiatives, cloud migration efforts, and production support activities.

As an intern, you will work alongside experienced software engineers to develop, test, maintain, and enhance business-critical applications. You will gain exposure to modern software development practices, cloud technologies, application support, and cross-functional collaboration while contributing to meaningful projects that support organizational goals.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Analyze and resolve production application issues for internally developed applications and tools.
  • Assist with the development of system enhancements and reports based on documented business and technical requirements.
  • Support application maintenance, including user interface and batch-processing support.
  • Participate in application implementations, upgrades, and rollout activities.
  • Develop and execute unit tests with guidance from senior team members.
  • Document unit testing results and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.
  • Assist with root cause analysis, code deployments, and utility/batch job execution.
  • Perform data modifications within application databases to correct customer and reference data.
  • Contribute to cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in code reviews, test automation efforts, and software quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with software developers, business analysts, infrastructure teams, and middleware teams to support successful solution delivery.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams and meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Limited development experience with scripting languages such as Python or Perl and/or enterprise programming languages such as Java, C++, C#, or C.
  • Exposure to mid-range or mainframe environments including Unix, AIX, Linux, iSeries, or zSeries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Basic understanding of software delivery pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
  • Awareness of cloud-based solution design principles.

This position is 40 hours per week requiring 2 days in the office - Hybrid.

Compensation $20.00/hr
