Software Engineering Internship (6-month Program)

As a Software Engineer intern, you will help plan, design, develop and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products which may be used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related computer programs. This opportunity will allow you to develop software, tools and code to be used in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms as well as commercial or end-user applications. You will use current programming language and technologies to write code, perform testing and debug any issues with robust documentation, procedures for deployment and processes for maintenance.

Academic credit may be available through the Microsoft Intern Program; university-specific requirements beyond academic credit are not supported. This internship opportunity begins 1 Feb, 2027 and spans a six-month period.

Responsibilities

• Applies engineering principles to solve complex problems through sound and creative engineering.
• Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
• Quickly learns new engineering methods and incorporates them into work processes.
• Seeks feedback and applies internal or industry best practices to improve technical solutions.
• Demonstrates skill in time management and completing software projects in a cooperative team environment.
• Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Currently pursuing Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience

• Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.

Additional or Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree (or currently pursuing) in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR Masters Degree (or currently pursuing) in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience

The base pay range for this internship is USD $5,690.00 - $11,210.00 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $7,410.00 - $12,250.00 per month.
