Software Systems Engineer

We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Software Systems Engineer to join a long-term program focused on system testing and performance evaluation. Own tasks end-to-end, write code, build and evaluate analysis tools, and work collaboratively within a structured delivery team. You will split time between the product delivery team and an analysis working group, contributing directly to software development, integration, validation, and customer-facing reporting.

We are happy to train the right person on areas where they have less experience, as long as they bring strong technical and software fundamentals and a willingness to learn.

What You'll Do

• Implement and evaluate prototype algorithms and software pipelines for product analysis, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and functional testing
• Develop, integrate, and deploy software components within a cloud-based (AWS) system architecture
• Support software system design, development, delivery, and execution across the full development lifecycle
• Perform verification and validation (V&V) support for local and enterprise-level test activities
• Investigate and resolve anomalies identified during testing and system characterization
• Organize and maintain technical plans, generate reports, and contribute to requirements traceability
• Work closely and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and program leaders across the project lifecycle
• Work directly with customers to clarify scope and refine requirements
• Prepare and deliver technical briefings to mixed audiences including engineers, managers, and customers
• Apply configuration management and development planning practices in a team environment (JIRA, Git, Jenkins)

What You Bring

• Proficiency in Python with experience writing production-quality code for data processing, analysis, or system integration
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools: implementing models, running experiments, evaluating outputs
• Experience developing on AWS; working knowledge of core cloud services and cloud-based development patterns
• A solid technical background: we welcome candidates with degrees or hands-on experience in Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, or similar fields
• C++ experience a plus
• Experience with MATLAB for analysis or prototyping a plus
