Summary:
The main function of a software technician is to monitor and control electronic computer and peripheral electronic data processing equipment to process business, scientific, engineering, and other data according to operating instructions. A typical software technician is responsible for monitoring and setting controls on computer and peripheral devices.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Enter commands, using computer terminal, and activate controls on computer and peripheral equipment to integrate and operate equipment.
  • Monitor the system for equipment failure or errors in performance.
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems or terminating the program.
  • Assign staff to help programmers and systems analysts test and debug new programs.
  • Operate spreadsheet programs and other types of software to load and manipulate data and to produce reports.
  • Load peripheral equipment with selected materials for operating runs.
  • Oversee the operation of computer hardware systems, including coordinating and scheduling the use of computer terminals and networks to ensure efficient use.
  • Oversee loading of peripheral equipment by peripheral equipment operators.
 
Skills:
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  • Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Knowledge of computer development software, such as SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, etc.
 
Education/Experience:
  • Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training required.
  • 5-7 years experience required.
 
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $24.00 - $25.00 /hr. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
