The Department of Design and Construction, Civil Division, is hiring for two (2) entry level Soil & Material Testing Technicians in Honolulu. These positions receive training in the performance of routine standardized tests on soil samples and construction material to determine their suitability for construction purposes.

What Youll Do

  • Learn, practice, and assist with laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with industry standards.
  • Learn, practice, and assist in preparing test reports, documentation, and chain-of-custody documents.
  • Learn, practice, and assist experienced Technicians with conducting field testing to provide data for in-situ site conditions as part of independent quality assurance and acceptance by the project manager, department, or agency.
  • Learn how to maintain laboratory facilities and equipment.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to and from various offices and job and field sites.

Special Working Conditions

  • Exposure to chemicals, lifting and carrying heavy (up to 50-pound) objects, and traversing rough and exposed terrain.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
