Job Title: Solar Service Technician
Job Summary
The Solar Service Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing solar energy
systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This role involves responding to service calls,
diagnosing system issues and implementing corrective actions to resolve problems. The technician works
closely with clients, and installation teams to deliver high-quality service and ensure customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Respond to service requests and diagnose issues with solar systems, including electrical faults,
connectivity problems, shading issues, and underperformance.
- Use diagnostic tools, such as multimeters, and PV testers, to identify problems and determine the
appropriate course of action.
- Implement repairs and adjustments to restore system functionality, ensuring minimal downtime and
disruption.
Customer Support:
- Provide technical support and guidance to customers, explaining system performance, maintenance
needs, and any repairs performed.
- Educate clients on how to monitor their solar systems and optimize energy usage.
- Address customer inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all service activities, including work performed, parts replaced, and
system performance data.
- Prepare detailed service reports and communicate findings to clients, project managers, and service
coordinators.
- Document and report any recurring issues or systemic problems to the Install Management team for
further investigation.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all service activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including electrical codes
and safety standards.
- Follow company safety protocols and guidelines while working on job sites, particularly when working
at heights or with electrical components.
- Identify and mitigate any safety hazards encountered during service visits.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- A technical certification or associate degree in electrical technology, renewable energy, or a related field
is preferred.
Experience:
- Experience in solar energy system installation, maintenance, or electrical service work is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, and electrical components.
Skills:
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and solar energy systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights and on rooftops.
- Must be able to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Travel:
- Frequent travel to client sites is required, which may involve overnight stays depending on the service
area.
Work Environment:
- The role involves both fieldwork and some office tasks. Fieldwork includes service visits to residential
sites, while reporting and administrative tasks are typically done in an office setting.
