Job Title: Solderer AssemblerJob Description

This role focuses on soldering and assembling cable and wire harness assemblies, box builds, kitting, and related products from start to finish. You will work with a variety of cable components and connectors, using both automated and manual soldering methods, and ensure that all assemblies meet industry standards and quality requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Solder and assemble cable and wire harness assemblies, box builds, kitting, and other related products from start to finish.
  • Perform cable and connector soldering using automated methods, including wire-to-wire soldering for connectors and cable components, and small amounts of reflow with lead-free or lead-based solder paste and alloys.
  • Read work orders, follow production documentation and sample assemblies, and apply verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
  • Carry out labeling, wire cutting, stuffing, crimping, bagging and tagging, soldering, potting, IDC, SCSI, heat shrinking, and related assembly tasks.
  • Measure materials in inches (in decimal form) and ensure precise cutting, stripping, and preparation of wires and cables.
  • Perform backshelling, harnessing, harness board construction, and box builds according to specifications.
  • Assemble kits and create wire lists to support production and assembly processes.
  • Execute pin extraction, splicing cables, and preparing solder cups as required.
  • Apply heat shrink, epoxy, and other materials to protect and finish cable and harness assemblies.
  • Use microscopes, long nose pliers, side cutters, and soldering irons to perform detailed and precise soldering and assembly work.
  • Follow IPC 610/620 and J-STD-001 standards to ensure high-quality workmanship and compliance with industry requirements.
  • Assist in the Quality Management System (QMS) and support the organization’s commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized individual workstation and adhere to all workplace policies, including no phone usage on the production floor.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on soldering experience, including wire-to-wire and connector soldering, through-hole soldering, and solder cup work.
  • Proficiency in assembly tasks such as wire cutting, crimping, stuffing, lacing, stripping wire, heat shrinking, labeling, and splicing cables.
  • Knowledge of IPC 610 and IPC 620 standards.
  • J-STD-001 certification (current or expired).
  • Ability to use microscopes for detailed inspection and precision work.
  • Ability to use long nose pliers, side cutters, and soldering irons safely and effectively.
  • Experience with harnessing, harness board construction, backshelling, and box builds.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, production documentation, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to measure in inches in decimal form and apply measurements accurately to cutting and assembly tasks.
  • Familiarity with tasks such as potting, IDC, SCSI, epoxy application, and kitting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with both lead-free and lead-based solder paste and alloys.
  • Exposure to automated soldering methods and small reflow processes.
  • Experience creating wire lists and performing pin extraction.
  • Comfort working autonomously at individual workstations.
  • Previous experience contributing to or working within a Quality Management System (QMS) and continuous improvement environment.

Work Environment

This position operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with substantial overtime available, including early start times around 5:00 a.m. and Saturday work, making 50+ hour weeks common. Work takes place in an assembly setting with individual workstations in a quiet workplace. All employees work autonomously and are expected to focus on their tasks without distractions. There is a strict no-phone policy on the production floor. You will work with tools and equipment such as microscopes, long nose pliers, side cutters, soldering irons, and other standard assembly tools in a structured and quality-focused environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
