1 Full-Time Position Available

As a Full-Time Scale House Solid Waste Customer Service Representative, no two days are the same. Whether opening or closing the scale house or assisting customers by phone, you'll be the friendly and knowledgeable first point of contact for residents and contractors. You'll help customers check in to dispose of waste, answer questions about refuse collection services, coordinate extra trash pickups, resolve container issues, explain service costs, and provide holiday schedule information.

Incumbents are responsible for providing routine clerical and administrative support as a function of the Solid Waste facility.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Receives direction from the Special Waste & Transfer Station Supervisor or higher-level management staff.

Typical Class Essential Duties

  1. Responds to routine requests for information including solid waste service requests and billing concerns; answers questions; directs callers and visitors appropriately; and tracks customer service requests via work order system from start to completion.

  2. Assists customers by determining if refuse entering the Solid Waste facility is permissible; blocks impermissible items from entering the facility and communicates to customers the appropriate waste disposal areas.

  3. Weighs all vehicles entering and exiting the Solid Waste facility; charges vehicles according to load.

  4. Receives and processes payments in person, by mail, over the phone, and from the City's website; balances individual cash drawer daily, in accordance with City accounts receivable rules and procedures.

  5. Files documents alphabetically, numerically, or by other prescribed methods; locates missing files; purges obsolete files.

  6. Performs various routine clerical duties utilizing standard office equipment including making photocopies, faxing documents, accepting payments, and two-way-radio use.

  7. Provides general customer service and communicates with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information about the facility or event.

  8. Runs standard reports according to established timelines, or as directed.

  9. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

  10. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Employment with the City of Casper is contingent upon a successful background screen and pre-employment drug test. Applicants who have failed a pre-employment screen or have been terminated from the City of Casper are ineligible for employment consideration for 12 months. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must utilize direct deposit for payroll purposes.

Driving records are required for all new employees regardless of the positions driving requirements. If the employee has not held a Wyoming drivers license for the last three years, the employee must provide at their own initiation and expense a driving record from their previous state(s) of residence.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

City of Casper employees in data creation and modification, security sensitive or safety and protective positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing. Some employees may be subject to random drug testing if their responsibilities include:

  • Emergency response/rescue
  • Handling or working with hazardous materials, including chemicals as well as solid and liquid waste
  • Operating or maintaining water and wastewater systems
  • Writing or modifying code, maintaining, or modifying City data systems including work on networks, servers, and communication systems
  • CDL operations and driving
  • Operating power-driven machinery or equipment
  • Creating or modifying health, financial, security and or risk documents or assessments
  • Working with or directing minors

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. A job in this category requires a good deal of walking or standing which is why it isn't categorized as sedentary.

Incumbents in this position work indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. When working indoors incumbents are in an office environment and are subject to the common noises associated with office work including telephones, copiers, and printers. The position requires frequent standing, walking, typing, and customer contact, both by telephone and in person. Incumbents in this position will typically stand up to four hours consecutively and frequently walk outside to inspect refuse that is entering the Solid Waste facility.
